The 86 class was a class of electric locomotives built by Comeng at Granville for the State Rail Authority between 1983-85 with a total of 50 produced. The 86 class initially hauled passenger and freight services to Lithgow on the Main Western line and Wyong on the Main Northern line. Their operation extended to Newcastle in June 1984 and when the Illawarra line was electrified in January 1986 travelled to Port Kembla.
In December 2014, Auscision released the Electric 86 Class locomotive which includes a 21 Pin socket for easily fitting a DCC decoder plus a speaker enclosure that suits a 20x40mm speaker. There are micro switches under the model for turning lights on/off in DC. In DCC all lights operate directional. Here at DCC Solutions we offer a light modification for the 86 Class to separate the headlights, white markers/ditch lights and red marker lights for a more prototypical operation . Each pair of front and rear marker lights can be controlled individually so when the locomotive is standing in a siding or shunting it can have both front and rear red markers on at the same time as per NSWGR practice. The front and rear headlights operate directionally on/off and can also be operated on/off non-directional.
We have developed a custom sound project for the Electric 86 Class with variations in the electric motor sounds as the locomotive changes speed which also allow for Manual Notching allowing the operator to chose the notches to suit your driving operation. There are selection of additional sounds including regenerative braking
For this installation we recommend the ESU LokSound V4.0 (Sound) or the LokPilot V4.0 (No Sound) for those not wishing sound. Alternatively you may wish to choose the ESU Select Sound Decoder or the TCS (Train Control Systems) 21 Pin non sound decoder. We offer several different options of DCC installation for this model to suit all budgets and can supply the decoders/speakers only for the DIY installers.

The NSW 86 Class Custom Sound Project includes:
- 86 Class Electric Drive Sound
- 86 Class Short Blast and Playable Horn.
- Manual Engine Notching
- Air and Brake Release Sounds when loco moves off and stops
- When the loco stops after braking the Westinghouse Compressor cuts in to fill the reservoir and will turn off when the tanks are full
- Wheel squeal and rail noise when the loco moves off which automatically stops with increased speed
- Regenerative Braking - Turn it on then reduce the throttle to active, increase the throttle to deactivate
- Electric Fan Motor Sounds
- Stop & Drive Random Sounds including fans, compressor, rail noise, track wheel squeal, air releases
- Pantograph up and down sounds

- Optional light modification for individual light control
- Motor settings and sound volumes tuned to specifically suit the Auscision 86 Class Locomotive Model.
